3 Series E92 316i (N43) COUPE
Automatic transmission only
Illustration does not show automatic transmission.
Important!
On engines with automatic transmissions, there is shortly
before the special tool bore for the TDC position a large bore
which can be confused with the special tool bore.
If the flywheel is secured in the correct bore with special tool
11 5 120 , the engine can no longer be moved at the central bolt.
Important!
When the engine is shut down, the inlet and exhaust
adjustment unit is normally locked in its initial position.
In order to avoid incorrect timing adjustment, it is essential to
check the locking of the adjustment unit and if necessary
perform locking by rotating the camshafts.
Check locking in initial position:
Place tool on twin surface of camshafts and attempt to rotate
camshafts carefully in direction of rotation.
If there is no fixed connection between camshafts and adjustment
units, rotate camshafts in direction of rotation as far as it will go.
The adjustment units are locked in the initial position when the
camshafts are non-positively connected to the adjustment units.
Note:
Picture shows N46T.
Important!
If the inlet or exhaust adjustment unit of the camshafts
"cannot" be locked as described, the adjustment unit is faulty
and must be replaced.
