E39 saloon

1. 

Remove the flap in the right-hand side panel in the luggage compartment.

2. 

Disconnect battery.

3. 

Remove the fuse mounting by loosening the three screws.

4. 

Completely wrap the ballast with self-adhesive armaflex (soft rubber) tape.

5. 

Plug the connector from the ballast wiring harness into the ballast.

6. 

Install the ballast (1) into the rear right of the luggage compartment and secure to the
adjacent wiring harness with a long cable tie (2). Pull the ballast wiring harness (4)
through the cable tie (5) and secure to the wiring harness with a cable tie (3).

Remove the fuse carrier (3) from the fuse mounting (4) and pull the relay (1) from the
relay carrier (2).

Unpin wire (2) (red/yellow) from fuse carrier (5), fuse space no. 47. Pinch off connector
from wire (2). Join wire (2) and wire (1) (red/yellow) from the ballast wiring harness
using a butt connector and shrinkable PVC hose (3). Plug the wire (4) (red) from the
ballast wiring harness into fuse space no. 47 of the fuse carrier (5).
