3)
Pour coolant into expansion tank up to max. cold fill
level. Allow engine to run at idle speed until no more
coolant needs to be added.
4)
Flush coolant circuit with two presses of accelerator pedal
(approx. 2500 rpm).
5)
Slacken vent plug on auxiliary heater (if fitted) (E39 only).
6)
Close vent plug on auxiliary heater (if fitted) when bubble-free
water emerges (E39 only).
7)
Switch off engine, set heater to minimum temperature.
8)
Wait approx. 3 minutes until auxiliary water pump in auxiliary
heater ceases to operate.
9)
Start engine again without heater.
10) Carefully open expansion tank and top up or draw off coolant
at idle speed to max. cold fill level.
11) Close coolant tank.
12) Take car for a test drive.
Addition for independent heating (special equipment)
1)
Fill and vent system as described above
2)
Start independent heating and wait for combustion.
3)
Start engine and run for several minutes at idle speed.
4)
Allow engine to run at idle speed until no more coolant needs
to be added.
5)
Close coolant tank.
6)
Take car for a test drive.
Coolant level check
Allow engine to cool down before checking coolant level. Coolant
temperature must not exceed 30
°
C. If ambient temperature is
above 30
°
C, let engine cool down to ambient temperature.
Check coolant level; if necessary, top up coolant to mark on tank.
Note:
Tank mark indicates the fluid level at approx. 20
°
C.
Use only recommended coolant,
refer to BMW Service Operating Fluids MG17.
