Instructions (damage to suspension)
Sub-standard roadholding, atypical noises, tires worn on one side, camber and toe-in values which deviate from
nominal value and mis-shaped components are all indicators of damage to the suspension caused by road traffic
accidents or similar impacts.
To repair vehicle correctly, depending on condition of vehicle, perform the following troubleshooting procedure:
Also comply with regulations governing accident-related repair work,
refer to Service Information 32 01 88 (828).

f) Tension/compression strut mis-
shaped
g) Control arm mis-shaped
a) Inspection of screw connection for
specified Tightening torque:
Track rod
Track rod/swivel bearing
Track rod/steering gear
Steering gear/front axle support
Lateral track rod/center track rod
Pitman arm/steering gear
Idler arm/front axle support
b) Replace track rod
Caution! If the track rod journal is
mis-shaped, the steering gear and
the swivel bearing must be replaced.
c) Replace track rod
Caution! If the track rod journal is
mis-shaped, the steering gear and
the swivel bearing must be replaced.
d) Replace pitman arm
e) Replace idler arm
f) Replace tension/compression strut
with swivel bearing
g) Replace control arm with swivel
bearing
