Removing and installing / replacing left or
right air reservoir (touring)
Caution!
Pull retainer off air supply unit to ensure that accidental
feedback control of the system cannot occur.
In area of air line connections, extreme cleanliness must be
ensured during removal and installation.
Even small dirt particles can cause leakage in the system.
Note:
Left and right air reservoirs differ.
No. stamped into air reservoir - odd = left.
No. stamped into air reservoir - even = right.
Caution!
Air reservoir with line is replaced from 9/99.
Line can no longer be detached from air reservoir!
Loosen corresponding line - blue = right side, red = left side - on
distributor block and retighten to tightening torque after pressure
in system has been reduced,
refer to Technical Data 37 12 3AZ.
Unfasten screws.
If necessary, remove exhaust holder on rear axle carrier.
540i:
Remove output shaft from final drive.
