Rear power windows not functioning
E38, E39
Complaint:
Failure of one or both rear door power windows.
Cause:
Continuous activation leading to excessive thermal stress on the power window motors,
caused by software errors in the general module (GM).
Affected
vehicles:
E38, E39
Manufacturing period: January 1996 to July 1996
Remedy:
In the event of a customer complaint, the affected power window (E38) or flat motor (E39)
should be renewed. If a general module (GM) with a software version below 1.5 is installed,
this should also be renewed.
Procedure:
E38:
Renew rear power windows:
See Repair Instructions 51 37 000.
E39:
Renew flat motor for rear power windows:
See Repair Instructions 67 62 020.
E38 and E39:
Connect DIS or MoDiC to the vehicle.
Select "ZKE" (Central Body Electronics) in the diagnosis programme and identify the
software (SW) of the GM via the control unit identification.
A GM with SW 1.1 to 1.4 must be replaced with a GM with SW 1.5 or higher and encoded.
