Corrosion prev. on aluminium propeller shaft screw connect.

Situation:
A light alloy propeller shaft has been fitted in the 520i (manual and automatic
transmissions) since its launch.
Procedure:
To prevent contact corrosion, special washers (1) coated with Dacromet will be fitted to the
screw connection on the flexible coupling.
Contact corrosion can occur, for example on combinations of steel/aluminium as a result of
the different conducting potentials of these materials. The resultant electro-chemical
reaction causes mechanical wear which possibly results in the screw connection on the
propeller shaft working loose.
In the event of repair work, always ensure that Dacromet-coated washers are used as
replacements.

tightening torque: 90 Nm
