Noises from rear wheel bearing
E39
Situation:
As a result of water ingress, the rear wheel bearing on some E39 vehicles may wear
prematurely. The result is a rolling noise.
Affected
vehicles:
E39, E39/2
Manufacturing period: Start of series production up to July 1997
Action:
New wheel bearings with improved seals have been introduced into series production. In
the event of a complaint both rear wheel bearings should be replaced with the new
bearings.
Procedure:
Please refer to Repair Instructions.
Important: The wheel carrier should be carefully cleaned in the area of the wheel bearing
seat and the drain hole!

2 x collar nut M27 x 1.5

8 x shouldered bolt
Part number 33 32 1 093 661
Note:
The old wheel bearings with part number 33 41 1 093 075 are to be scrapped
(information will be provided shortly).
Reimbursement:
Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms as follows:
