Servotronic intermittently inoperative after engine start
E38, E39, E53
Complaint:
Immediately after the engine is started, the power steering assistance of the Servotronic is
intermittently not available. The Servotronic is fully functional again after the ignition is
switched off / on.
Fault 130, "speedometer signal interrupted" is stored in the basic module. If this fault is
stored in the fault memory more than 30 times, the Servotronic will remain permanently in
emergency mode.
Vehicles affected:
E38, E39, all with ASC 5.7 or DSC 5.7 and Servotronic (option 216)
Manufacturing period: 09/1998 until 09/2000
E53, all with Servotronic (option 216)
Manufacturing period: start of series production until 10/2000
Procedure:
In case of complaint, replace the ABS/ASC or DSC control unit as described in Repair
Instructions RA 34 52 515 / 34 52 516.
