Outside mirror glass vibrates

E39

Situation: 

At speeds of approx. 100 km/h or above the glass in the outside mirror may start vibrating.
This is due to a manufacturing error on the part of the suppliers (the adjusting mechanism
and the mirror glass are not properly co-ordinated).

Affected
vehicles:

E39 without option 430 (outside mirror with automatic dip action)
Period of manufacture: from the start of series production up to week 49/95

Procedure:

In the event of this complaint arising, a foam strip approx. 15 mm long, 12 mm wide and 4
mm thick should be affixed to the rear of the mirror next to each of the four retaining clips
(please refer to figure). 

Reimbursement: 

Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms as follows:
