Removing and installing entire rear axle
carrier (touring)

Remove wheels,

refer to 36 10 300.

Remove propeller shaft,

refer to 26 11 000.

Remove left and right brake calipers and tie up on body,

refer to 34 21 745.

Remove left/right ABS impulse sensors.

Remove handbrake Bowden cables from handbrake lever,
refer to MG 34.

Remove heat shield from above propeller shaft.

If necessary, remove connector from ride height sensor.

Vehicle with air suspension:

Pull retainer off air supply unit to ensure that accidental feedback
control of the system cannot occur.

Loosen pipes on distributor block to release system pressure. The
vehicle stands low.

Installation:

Tightening torque,

refer to Technical Data 37 12 3AZ.

Raise wheel carrier with workshop hoist.

Unfasten bolt on wheel carrier.
