Replacing fuel filter unit (M57)
Caution!
Turn off ignition.
Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
Caution!
When working on the oil, coolant or fuel circuit, you must
protect the alternator against contamination.
Cover alternator with suitable materials.
Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an
alternator malfunction.
Press down locking springs (1).
Disconnect fuel lines.
Unfasten nuts (2).
Remove fuel filter unit (3).
The fuel cooler (4) can remain in the car.
Release fuel filter (1) from filter unit (2).
Note:
If the fuel filter (1) is seated too tightly, use special tool
11 4 650.
Tightening Torque,
refer to details printed on fuel filter.
Installation:
To vent fuel filter:
Turn on ignition and leave on for approx. 1 minute. In this
period of time, the fuel pre-supply pump is activated and the
fuel filter is filled with fuel and vented.
