5 Series E39 525i (M54) SAL
Insert spring strut in coil spring and upper spring retainer.
Observe installation sequence.
Refer to Layout of spring strut shock absorber unit.
Screw a new self-locking nut (1) onto piston rod until flush.
Coil spring must form a positive connection as it rests in lower
spring plate/spring pad.
Release tension on coil spring until it is fully resting in lower spring
plate.
Tighten down nut with special tool 31 2 210 to specified
tightening torque,
refer to Technical Data 31 31 2AZ .
Fully release tension on coil spring and remove.
Important!
Screw connection of support bearing to piston rod must not
be tightened with impact screwdriver!
