Removing and installing power-steering gear
Special tools required:
•
31 2 240
Caution!
If the steering gear is replaced, the front axle must be
adjusted after installation.
Make sure all parts are absolutely clean.
No dirt is allowed to enter the system.
Seal off pipe connections with plugs.
Remove front wheels.
Remove steering wheel.
Release left and right engine mounts on front axle support and lift
engine approx. 40 mm with special tool; refer to Removing oil
sump on corresponding engine.
Engine M57:
Remove acoustic insulation on left and right.
Detach left and right engine mounting brackets from front axle
support.
Recycling:
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
Draw hydraulic fluid out of tank and do not reuse.
Installation:
Bleed power steering.
