Installation instructions for constant velocity joint

E39, E38, E31

Situation: 

The assembly instructions for attaching the propeller shaft to the final drive have been
modified as sometimes leaks arose at the constant velocity joint when the previous method
was used.

E39, E38, E31

Procedure:

The Repair Instructions have been revised. It is essential you adhere to the new procedure.

Pull the constant velocity joint (1) out to the limit. It should not be pushed together
during fitting as the grease can force the gasket out of position, which may cause a
leak as it may no longer form a perfect seal.

Degrease the sealing surfaces of the constant velocity joint and input flange.

Replace the gasket (2). The nuts should be renewed.

By tightening two opposite nuts equally you can ensure the constant velocity joint
meets the drive flange evenly. It is only permitted to tighten the remaining nuts and
carry out the remaining work on the propeller shaft once this first step has been carried
out.

Tightening torque, refer to Technical Data 26 11 4AZ
