5 Series E39 530d (M57) SAL
The reverse of the rack must not be treated with cleaning agents.
If necessary, remove the underbody
protection.
Turn the steering wheel fully to the right
(to the left on right-hand drive vehicles).
Release the clamping straps (1) of the
left-hand bellows (2) (right-hand
bellows on right-hand drive vehicles).
Clean the track rod.
Pull the bellows (2) from the steering
gear and slide over the track rod.
Turn the steering wheel fully to the left
(to the right on right-hand drive
vehicles).
Spray the reverse of the rack (3) from
above with BMW Teflon spray along its
entire length and into the steering gear
(4).
Attention!
Ensure that the partially dismantled bellows are not damaged or caught during the
following operations.
Immediately after spraying: Turn the steering wheel once to the right and to the left-hand
stop (wheels without loading or with the engine running).
Allow the Teflon to dry for 15 minutes.
Repeat the spraying and steering procedure.
Allow the Teflon to dry for 30 minutes with the bellows open.
Install bellows and fit new clamping straps, ensuring it is correctly fitted and free from leaks.
