Windscreen replacement (change in Repair Instructions)

E39

Situation: 

Due to modifications in the method of manufacture, the position and number of spacers
used to support the windscreen have been changed with respect to Repair Instructions  51
31 000. 

In addition, an expanding foam rubber strip has been fitted where the cowl meets the sound
proofing to improve the acoustics of the passenger compartment (not shown in the Repair
Instructions).

Note:

These changes have been included in Repair Instructions (TIS CD 2/96).

Affected
vehicles:

E39 as from the series launch

Procedure:

Replace the windscreen in accordance with Repair Instructions  51 31 000. 

Important:
Affix the spacers in accordance with Figure 1 

Figure 1:
Affix 1 spacer (2) in the middle and at
distance (A) and (B), measuring from
the middle of the cowl.

Measurements:

(A) 490 mm

(B) 450 mm

(C) 6 mm

Remove the old expanding foam strip and attach the new one, please refer to Figure 2.
