Wide-screen on-board monitor opens unexpectedly

E38, E39

Complaint:

When the driver's door is opened, or when the vehicle is started, the on-board monitor
control panel opens even though the eject button has not been pressed. The on-board
monitor control panel then closes again automatically. This procedure may repeat itself
several times over.

Cause:

Fault in the housing of the on-board monitor.

The end position of the on-board monitor control panel may not be correctly recognised due
to an incorrectly positioned micro switch on the PCB. This causes the on-board monitor
control panel to open repeatedly of its own accord when the driver's door is opened or
when the vehicle is started.

Affected
vehicles:

E38, E39 with on-board monitor with TV (option 602) or navigation system 
(option 609) 
Manufacturing period: September 2000 to November 2000

Procedure:

Remove the complete on-board monitor. 

Please refer to Repair Instructions 65 52 013 Removing and installing / replacing complete
on-board monitor (wide screen).

Check the date of manufacture and serial number on the parts label.

If the date of manufacture is earlier than calendar week 47/00, the on-board monitor
housing must be replaced.

When installing a new on-board monitor housing, it must be ensured that the

date of manufacture is later than week 46/00

- 

and the serial number is greater than Y1136931.
