General information on checking the navigation system operating software:

Navigation computer Mk1 - up to 09/1997:

The navigation computer software status can be read off from the diagnostic program in the
DIS. The test plan "Navigation" must be selected. The navigation computer identification
page appears. This contains the software status (SW number).

Operating software V 6.5 or earlier:
SW number (DIS): 4.7 or lower

Operating software V 7.0:
SW number (DIS): 5.2

Operating software V 7.3:
SW number (DIS): 5.3

Navigation computer Mk2 - from 09/1997:

The software status can be read off from the top line of the on-board monitor when the
"Settings" menu is pressed. The generation number appears alongside the version and
software status.

Operating software V 1.7:
Navigation system software status: 1.7
On-board monitor display: "SW 2-1/17 ".

Attention:

The new "Mk2" navigation computer introduced in 09/1997 cannot  be loaded with
operating system CD "V 7.3" or earlier!

If such a CD is inadvertently inserted into the drive, a white field appears on the on-board
monitor, which does not then change. It is not possible to select on-board monitor
functions! However, when the CD is removed and the ignition switched off and on again
(wait about a minute), the previously loaded operating system is activated again.

The navigation system Mk2 is not supported by the diagnostic program with test modules
and diagnostic interrogation. Rather, reference is made to a function description after
selecting a test plan.

The operating software CD will be sent without invoicing .

Please refer to Information Diagnosis and Encoding IDC 010/97-1.

All dealers in the automatic CD distribution system "BMW Navigation" will receive a copy.
There is no limit to the number of times the operating software CD can be used to load the
operating software.

Note:

The CD "V 7.3" dispatched in September 1997 remains valid as the same status is
also on CD "V 0.5". However, this can only be used with Mk1 navigation systems.

Material and labor costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms as follows:
