5 Series E39 530d (M57) SAL
Screw special tool 13 5 191 into sprocket wheel of H.P.
pump (1).
Note:
Mark direction of travel of timing chain.
Insert screw of special tool 13 5 191 .
Remove sprocket wheel of H.P. pump (1) with timing chain.
Installation:
The position of the sprocket wheel (1) with respect to the
H.P. pump has no effect on the function.
Remove gasket (1).
Check adapter sleeves (2) for damage and correct position and
replace if necessary.
Clean sealing surfaces.
Installation:
New gasket must be fitted dry.
Install new gasket in one piece and do not kink.
The camshaft timing chain must be installed before the front
timing case cover is attached.
Because of its precise fixing to the crankshaft, the radial seal in
the front timing case cover may only be replaced after the cylinder
head and the oil sump have been installed.
Replacing radial seal in lower timing case cover:
Refer to 11 14 141
.
Failure to comply with this procedure will result in a loss of oil in
this area.
Assemble engine.
