5 Series E39 530d (M57) SAL
Place timing chain (1) on exhaust sprocket wheel (2).
Push exhaust sprocket wheel (2) onto exhaust camshaft.
Insert Torx bolt.
Note:
The position of the sprocket wheel to the camshaft does not
influence the function in any way.
Installation:
Make sure profile gasket (1) of guide rail (2) is correctly
positioned.
Fit chain guide (1) with a new gasket.
Tighten down screws (2).
Grip exhaust camshaft at hexagon head with wrench (3).
Tighten Torx bolt (4) to 15 Nm.
Carefully and slowly rotate exhaust camshaft at Torx bolt in
direction of engine rotation until hydraulic chain tensioner is
compressed.
Remove special tool 11 3 340 from tensioner (1).
Grip exhaust camshaft at hexagon head and slacken Torx bolt
again by a half turn.
