Relay assignment, engine wiring harness in
electronics box (M47 / M57)
Read fault memory of DDE control unit. Check stored fault
messages. Rectify fault (DDE = Digital Diesel Electronics).
Switch off ignition.
E39 cars only:
Installation location of relays is in electronics box (E box) in engine
compartment on right.
Release retaining clips (1).
Important!
The air duct can brake at the bulkhead when removed and
installed.
Carefully turn the air duct clockwise until it is no longer locked in
the bulkhead.
Pull air duct forwards and remove towards top.
Release retaining bracket (2).
Remove microfilter housing cover (3).
Open spring (4) and pull microfilter housing upwards.
Move microfilter housing to right and remove.
Unfasten screws (1).
Tightening torque, 12 90 4AZ.
Remove electronics box cover (2).
From 10/2000:
Note:
For purposes of clarity, locking clips (1) are shown with cover
opened.
After releasing screws, unlock both locking clips (1) and remove
cover.
