Replacing battery positive lead (between
battery positive connection point, starter and
alternator)
Read fault memory. Switch off ignition.
Observe safety instructions for handling vehicle battery.
Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery,
refer to General Information MG12.
Release terminal clip for battery negative lead on battery.
Disconnect and cover battery negative lead.
If necessary, remove underbody paneling at front.
Detach cover (1).
Unscrew nut (2).
Unclip cable (3) from cable holder (4).
Loosen screws (1).
Remove air duct (2).
E39 cars only:
