Replacing air cleaner element (M57)
E39 only:
Release retaining clips (1).
Caution!
The air duct can brake at the firewall if not carefully removed
and installed.
Carefully turn air duct clockwise until it is no longer locked in
firewall.
Pull air duct forwards and remove towards top.
Release retaining bracket (2).
Remove microfilter housing cover (3).
Open spring (4) and pull microfilter housing upwards.
Slide microfilter housing in direction of arrow and remove
upwards.
All cars:
Release cap (1).
Detach bellows (2).
Release screws (3).
Remove cover of intake muffler (4).
Remove air cleaner element.
