Fixing E39 530d (M57) TOUR Auxiliary Heater Switching Issues
11. Reinstall removed parts and check that the auxiliary heater is working correctly.
E39 touring
1.
Remove the flap in the right-hand side panel in the luggage compartment.
2.
Disconnect battery.
3.
Remove the fuse mounting.
4.
Attach double-sided adhesive foam (approx. 20 mm thick) to the underside of the
ballast. Wrap the remaining three longitudinal sides of the ballast with two parallel
strips of armaflex tape.
5.
Plug the connector from the ballast wiring harness into the ballast.
6.
Peel the backing paper from the attached adhesive foam and install the ballast (1).
Route the ballast wiring harness (2) as a loop to the equipment carrier and secure with
a cable tie. The ballast must be pushed fully back to the stop on the horizontal sheet
metal surface before being bonded.

Remove the fuse carrier from the fuse mounting and pull the relay from the relay
carrier.
8.
Unpin wire (2) (red/yellow) from fuse carrier (5), fuse space no. 47. Pinch off connector
from wire (2). Join wire (2) and wire (1) (red/yellow) from the ballast wiring harness
using a butt connector and shrinkable PVC hose (3). Plug the wire (4) (red) from the
ballast wiring harness into fuse space no. 47 of the fuse carrier (5).
