Removing and installing, sealing or replacing
oil-water heat exchanger (M57)

Remove engine underguard.

Drain coolant,

refer to 17 00 005.

Remove and install oil filter housing,

refer to 11 42 020.

When the oil filter housing is removed, a residual quantity of
coolant will flow out of the oil-water heat exchanger into the
engine oil sump!

To avoid engine damage caused by coolant admixture, it is
absolutely essential after completing the tasks to drain off the
engine oil at the engine oil drain plug and change it.

Failure to comply with this procedure will result in serious engine
damage!

Caution!

When working on the oil, coolant or fuel circuit, you must protect
the alternator against contamination.

Cover alternator with suitable materials.

Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an alternator
malfunction.

Release screws on oil-water heat exchanger (1).

Remove oil-water heat exchanger (1) from oil filter housing (2).

If necessary, convert coolant hose to new part.
