Tools for tailgate
E39 touring
Situation:
New special tools are required for servicing the tailgate.
Refer to Enclosure 1.
The gas-filled springs on the tailgate and the rear window frame must each be removed
and installed with a special tool (51 2 151 and 51 2 152). To prevent damage to the
paintwork during removal and installation, the assembly protection 51 2 153 provided
must be used.
To align the rear-window wiper drive to the wiper axis on the rear window, the assembly
gauge 61 1 320 must be used.
Procedure:
Both special tool sets will automatically be sent to you in accordance with the existing tools
agreement.
Refer to E39 5 Series Repair Instructions, job item 51 24 320, 51 24 321 and
61 62 090.
