Removing and installing timing case cover,
top right (S62)
Release screw on dipstick guide tube.
Disconnect plug connection to check valve. Detach vacuum
hose (1) from check valve.
Detach secondary air line (2) on timing case cover, top left and
right.
Detach secondary air line (2) from holder and remove.
Installation:
Clean sealing surfaces on cylinder head. Replace left and
right sealing rings on secondary air line (2) and apply a thin
coat of grease as lubricant.
Remove right cylinder head cover. These tasks are described in
the work step Removing and installing/sealing both cylinder head
covers,
refer to 11 12 004.
Remove fan clutch with impeller,
refer to 11 52 020.
Remove piston for chain tensioner,
refer to 11 31 090.
Note:
Remove VANOS adjustment unit before removing timing case
cover.
If no follow-on work is scheduled after the timing case cover has
been removed, remove the VANOS adjustment unit only - the
splined shafts are to remain in the VANOS gear. Do not adjust the
camshaft timing.
Without follow-on work:
Remove right VANOS adjustment unit,
refer to 11 36 040.
