5 Series E39 M5 (S62) SAL
Remove stabilizer from push rod.
Unscrew left and right nuts.
Press left and right track rod off steering knuckle with special tool
31 2 240.
Installation:
Use washer (1). Replace self-locking nut.
Brace on hexagon socket if necessary.
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 32 21 3AZ.
Remove heat shield and positive cable from front axle support.
Unfasten bracket of oil cooler line (steering unit) on front axle
support.
Unfasten wheel arch trim from front area of front axle support.
Remove steering gear from front axle support (lines remain
connected).
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Draw in steering gear on screw (1) until it abuts the front axle
support and only tighten hand-tight. First tighten screws (2),
then tighten screw (1).
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 32 00 1AZ.
Remove left and right control arm on front axle carrier.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts (1).
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 31 12 2AZ.
