MID flashes temporarily

E38, E39

Complaint:

1.

The text in the multi-information display (MID) sporadically flashes on.

This fault only occurs when the dipped headlight is on and the instrument lighting is
completely dimmed (dark).

2.

The characters in the MID flash sporadically or cyclically, become blank or flicker.

Cause:

Software error in MID. Multi-information displays with a software version less than 13.0 are
affected by this error.

Affected vehicles:

E38, E39 
Manufacturing period: start of series production until January 2000.

Procedure:

In case of customer complaint, replace MID.
Please refer to Repair Instructions "Remove and install / replace multi-information display", 
Repair Instructions 65 81 010.
