Removing and installing/sealing or replacing
complete oil-filter housing (M57)

Unscrew and remove splash guard.

Drain coolant,

refer to 17 00 005.

When the oil-filter housing is disassembled, a residual quantity
of coolant flows out of the oil-water heat exchanger into the
engine oil sump!

In order to avoid damage to the engine caused by coolant
admixture, it is absolutely essential after completing work to drain
and change the engine oil at the engine oil drain plug.

Failure to comply with this procedure will result in serious engine
damage!

Caution!

When working on the oil, coolant or fuel circuit, you must
protect the alternator against contamination.

Cover alternator with suitable materials.

Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an
alternator malfunction.

Release screws (1).

Remove acoustic cover (2) at front.
