Turn engine on central screw against the direction of rotation up to
45

°

 before TDC position.

Note markings!

Note:

Engines without 45

°

 before TDC marking:

Crank engine at central bolt against direction of rotation until
gap in increment wheel fits in special tool 11 3 440.

Note:

From 10/93, a new guide rail has been installed without
mounting to the cylinder head. The fastening point for the
screw (1) is omitted. The new guide rail may also be installed
in pre-10/93 engines.

If necessary, detach guide rail on cylinder head, right.

Release cylinder-head bolts in sequence 10 ... 1.

Lift off cylinder head.

Installation

Installation of cylinder head is described separately from removal.
The assembly sequence for removal and installation is different.

Clean sealing faces of cylinder head and engine block, if
necessary using wooden scraper to remove gasket debris. Ensure
that no gasket debris drops into the oil and coolant ducts.

Threaded bores in engine block must be free of dirt and oil
(danger of cracking).
