Engine stalls at full steering lock or when drive position "R" is selected
E38, E39 / M62 (DME 5.2)
Complaint:
On the above vehicles with DME control unit M5.2, the engine can stall at idling speed
when the following conditions are present:
a)
Drive position "R" is selected (automatic transmission).
b)
The steering wheel is turned to full lock.
The problem occurs more evidently when the air conditioner is switched off.
Cause:
Increased output requirement from steering/transmission.
Affected
vehicles:
E38, E39/M62 with DME 5.2
Manufacturing period: Start of series production up to September 1997.
Remedy:
In the event of customer complaint:
Increase idling speed through reprogramming DME control unit. The modified data blocks
are available from BMW DIS CD ROM V 14.0.
A manual input must be carried out when performing this service action. The programmed
control units with the part numbers listed below must only be used in conjunction with the
basic control unit with PN 12 14 1 429 884.
