Footwell temperature too hot
E38 with IHKA (option 534)
Complaint:
When the outside temperature is between 10
°
C and 25
°
C and a temperature of approx.
20
°
C to 22
°
C is set at the IHKA control panel, the footwell is heated up to great an extent.
Cause:
When the stratification adjuster is set to "COLD", the cold air from the centre air jets in the
dashboard flows downwards and is inducted by the fan of the inside sensor (see figure).
This causes the IHKA control unit to pick up too low a temperature and as a result to
increase the temperature, in particular at the footwell jets.
Affected
vehicles:
E38 with IHKA (option 534)
Manufacturing period: from the start of series production up to November 96
Remedy:
If you receive a complaint from a customer, you can alter the characteristic curve of the
outside temperature compensation circuit, reducing the amount to which the footwell
temperature is increased.
Procedure:
You alter the characteristics curve by recoding the IHKA control unit.
The recoding is possible using the diagnosis program DIS CD V9.0 or higher. You select
the relevant program section via
-
"Service Functions"
-
"Changing the characteristic curve of the outside temperature compensation circuit".
Reimbursement:

subject to current warranty terms as follows:
