Modified transmission carrier
E38 730i Automatic
Situation:
The current transmission carrier (part number 22 32 1 092 991) has been deleted. If, in the
course of a repair (e.g. repair of accident damage), the transmission carrier has to be
exchanged, the modified transmission carrier (part number 22 32 1 092 557) must be
installed. Body repair work is required to fit the modified transmission carrier with its
associated parts.

E38 730i M60 Automatic
Manufacturing period: Start of series production to August 1995
Action:
The modified transmission carrier was gradually introduced into series production from
August 1995. If the transmission carrier is renewed on affected vehicles, the current
transmission carrier's two retaining brackets on the transmission tunnel must be cut away
using a disc grinder. The modified transmission carrier must be fitted.
Procedure:
1.
Remove the complete exhaust system
Please refer to repair instructions 18 00 020
2.
Remove the heat protection shield
3.
Unclip the wires for the oxygen sensor, release the plug connector on the transmission
carrier and tie the wiring harness back
4.
Unfasten the transmission cable from the transmission
5.
Support the transmission using a hydraulic jack
(special tool 00 2 030 and 24 5 300)
6.
Remove the complete transmission mounting (transmission cross-member, hydraulic
bearing, hydraulic bearing adapter and vibration absorber)
7.
Protect the cable, plug connectors and flexible coupling from sparks during the
subsequent cutting operation
8.
Cut the two retainer brackets (1) from the body using a disc grinder
(178 mm dia. disc) at the dotted line (please refer to the illustration below)
9.
When they have cooled off, deburr the cutting lines, prime, paint using a paint pencil
and seal with cavity wax (only use BMW products)
10. Fit the modified transmission carrier (2) with the two rubber mounts (4) and vibration
absorber (3) (please refer to the illustration below)
(all other necessary parts can be taken from the original parts)
11. Reassemble the vehicle in the reverse order
