Embossing chassis number
If the embossed VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is
removed during repair work, this number must be re-
embossed.
To emboss the VIN, it is first necessary to remove the front
right spring strut shock absorber,
refer to 31 31 000
The special tool kit 41 1 010 for embossing the VIN comprises:
Guide plate 41 1 011 (1)
Counter plate 41 1 012 (2).
Fit special tool 41 1 012 (2) at bottom under spring strut
support plate.
Fit special tool 41 1 011 (1) at top on spring strut support plate
and secure.
Insert stamp numbers 41 1 002 (1) individually in special tool
41 1 011 (2) then emboss VIN.
Die-stamp a "+" in front of and behind the VIN instead of the BMW
emblem for clear identification of component or body
replacements by a workshop.
