Checking timing of camshaft(s) (M73)

Remove both cylinder head covers,

refer to 11 12 004

Removing spark plugs, 

refer to 12 12 011

Remove engine splash guard.

Turn central screw to rotate crankshaft in normal direction of
rotation until piston of first cylinder is at firing TDC.

Note:

With first cylinder in TDC position, recess in flange on
camshaft (1) is aligned with oil injector strip (2).

Remove dust cover from locating bore.

Secure crankshaft in TDC position with special tool 11 2 300.

Caution!

Remove special tool prior to operating engine.

Place Special tool 11 3 190 on camshaft.

Note:

Special tool 11 3 190 must locate flush with cylinder head.

If necessary, adjust timing of camshaft, 

refer to 11 31 505
