7 Series E38 L7 (M73) SAL
Unfasten cylinder head screws from outside to inside in sequence
14 to 1.
Remove cylinder head.
Remove cylinder head gasket.
Installation:
Clean sealing faces of cylinder head and engine block, if
necessary using wooden scraper to remove gasket debris.
Ensure that no gasket debris drops into the oil and coolant
ducts.
Threaded bores in engine block must be free of dirt and oil
(risk of cracking).
Installation:
Replace cylinder head gasket.
Fit new cylinder head screws.
Tightening torque,
refer to Technical Data 11 12 7AZ
Tighten cylinder head screws working outwards from inside edge
in sequence 1 to 14.
Note:
Assembly of sprocket wheels and adjustment of camshaft is
described in section on removing and installing upper section
of timing case,
