7 Series E38 L7 (M73) SAL
Before installation, measure piston installation clearance. Measure
piston diameter with micrometer at measuring point A from bottom
edge of piston and offset at 90
°
to the axis of the piston pin.
Measuring point A,
refer to Technical Data.
Adjust micrometer on cylinder bore of engine block and set plug
gauge on micrometer to zero. Measure bottom, center and top of
cylinder bore in direction of travel and direction of engine rotation.
Diameter of cylinder bore,
refer to Technical Data.
For piston installation clearance and permitted total wear
clearance,
refer to Technical Data.
Replace conrod bearing shells,
refer to 11 24 571.
Caution!
Piston and piston bolts are paired and must not be fitted
individually.
Cylinder bank 1 - 6
The conrod and piston pin should be fitted to piston with arrow for
direction of installation on piston pointing forwards and flat face of
conrod facing backwards.
Cylinder bank 7 - 12
Fit conrod and piston pin to piston in such a way that arrow for
direction of installation on piston and flat face of conrod face
forwards.
