Replacing both timing chains (M67)
Note:
For purposes of clarity, all the work steps described below
are shown on a removed engine without cylinder heads.
The timing chains can also be replaced while installed.

Warning!
Danger of scalding!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.
Caution!
If the timing chains are to be reused, the direction of travel and the
cylinder bank of the relevant timing chain must be marked.
Sprocket wheel of crankshaft, sprocket wheels of camshafts and
tensioning and guide rails must be checked and replaced if worn.
Microencapsulated screws must be replaced.
Recycling:
Catch and dispose of escaping coolant.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
