Failure of MOST control units at high outside temperatures
E65, E66
Complaint:
The failure of individual control units of the MOST network that are installed in the rear of
the vehicle, e.g. navigation computer, video module, etc., can cause various fault patterns.
Please note that the failure of a single MOST control unit will result in malfunctions in the
entire MOST network.
Fault patterns encountered are, e.g.:
-
Regularly repeated cracking noises in the audio system
-
The Control Display (CD) remains white or dark, making it impossible to call up
functions from the CD in the vehicle
Cause:
The control units of the individual MOST components or the interfaces within the MOST
network have been exposed to too high temperatures.
To protect the individual components from damage, they are deactivated when a
predetermined temperature has been reached.
If a component is deactivated due to excessive temperature, this will be documented with
an appropriate fault memory entry.
Deactivation occurs principally at high ambient temperatures (>40
°
C).
Affected
vehicles:
E65, E66 without rear compartment monitor (option 603) and without DVD changer (option
696)
Manufacturing period: from the start of series production
Procedure:
In case of customer complaint, perform diagnosis with DISplus or GT1. If an excessive
temperature fault memory entry is diagnosed that can be allocated to a MOST control unit
installed in the rear of the vehicle, install fans in the luggage compartment.
1.
In the luggage compartment, remove the luggage compartment floor trim
