Complaint:
Batteries for the cordless handset (SBDH) discharge after a short time.
Cause:
When terminal 30 is active, the charging station is not switched off, so that the handset's
low-current mode is not activated, causing the batteries to discharge.
Affected vehicles:
E65 with GMS car phone with cordless handset (option 630)
Manufacturing period: from the start of series production until week 06/02
Remedy:
I.
Replace transceiver
II.
Discharge the handset batteries provided (e.g. with a hand lamp).
III.
Program the vehicle using CD "CIP V 1.0" or later.
IIII. Format the batteries
In case of customer complaint:
Procedure:
I.
Replace the transceiver as described in Repair instructions 84 11 620.
II.
Program the vehicle with CD "CIP V1.0" or later. Please refer to "Programming,
encoding, car & key memory" CD "CIP V1.0", IDC 008/002011. Please pay particular
attention to Enclosure 2 "Procedure for programming and encoding control units on
E65 vehicles". The procedures described in the sections "Preparing the vehicle for
programming and encoding using CIP" must be followed to the letter.
III.
Discharge the batteries in the handset (e.g. with a hand lamp).
IIII. Discharged handset batteries must be formatted and charged at the same time.
Charging takes about 8 hours.
The process of formatting the batteries is as follows:
1.
Connect the BMW-approved charger (Deutronic DBL430) to the vehicle battery.
Please refer to Service Information bulletin
61 08 01 (776) "Notes on charging the battery".
2.
Insert the batteries into the cordless handset, close the battery compartment cover and
engage the cordless handset in the eject box.
3.
Switch on terminal 15.
4.
Leave the vehicle in this position for approx. 8 hours.
5.
Perform a function check on the cordless handset. Correctly formatted and charged
batteries can be recognised by the dark battery pictograph in the display of the
handset.
Note:
If the formatting process is interrupted (e.g. if the cordless handset is removed
from the eject box), the formatting will be prolonged accordingly.
Important!
On no account should the battery compartment lid of the cordless handset be
