Removing and installing / replacing lower
section of steering spindle
Important!
If the lower section of the steering spindle is separated from
the power steering gear/steering column, this can result in
damage to the steering column switch cluster when the
steering wheel is turned!
Necessary preliminary tasks:
•
Remove lower section of steering spindle from universal joint
(do not pull out)
•
Remove trim panel for pedal assembly.
Remove air duct in footwell.
Mark installation position of lower section of steering spindle in
relation to steering column.
Release clamping screw (1).
Return steering to straight-ahead drive setting and remove ignition
key.
Pull lower section of steering spindle out of universal joint.
Detach lower section of steering spindle from steering column.
Installation:
Recut thread.
Replace clamping screw.
Clamping screw (1) must rest in groove of steering column.
Tightening torque 32 31 1AZ
