Inlet and exhaust camshafts (1) are provided with markings.

Meaning:

E 1 = Inlet camshaft, cylinders 1 - 4

E 2 = Inlet camshaft, cylinders 5 - 8

A 1 = Exhaust camshaft, cylinders 1 - 4

A 2 = Exhaust camshaft, cylinders 5 - 8

Carefully insert exhaust camshaft (1).

Carefully insert inlet camshaft (2).

Note:

Illustrations show M67.

Insert exhaust and inlet camshafts in such a way that splines on
camshaft gears match up with markings (see illustration).

Note:

Illustration shows cyl. 5 to 8

Installation:

The designations on the camshaft bearing caps are shown in
the order in which they are located. Meaning:

B1 = Cylinder bank 1 - 4,

E1 = 1st bearing cap on inlet camshaft,

E2 = 2nd bearing cap on inlet camshaft, etc. 

A1 = 1st bearing cap on exhaust camshaft,

A2 = 2nd bearing cap on exhaust camshaft, etc.

Fit bearing caps on camshaft(s).

Note:

Illustrations show M67.

Evenly tighten down screws of camshaft bearing caps in 1/2 turn
steps from inside to outside.

Note:

Illustrations show M67.
