Automatic steering wheel adjustment in upward direction only
E53
Complaint:
During automatic steering wheel adjustment (convenient-access facility) the steering wheel
moves in upward direction only. Forward/backward movement does not take place.
Steering wheel adjustment via the operating lever is possible in all directions.
On vehicles built before the specified production date, the steering wheel also moves
automatically in forward/backward direction as part of the convenient-access facility. If the
driver's seat control panel (seat memory module) is re-encoded using DIS CD V26 of DIS
CD V27 as part of repairs conducted on these vehicles, the steering wheel will only move
upwards when the convenient-access facility is active.
Cause:
Function of automatic steering wheel adjustment changed in series production and
corresponding change to encoding data from DIS CD V26 and DIS CD V27.
Affected
vehicles:
E53 with electric seat adjustment (option 459)
Manufacturing period: since April 2001
Procedure:
Encoding of automatic steering wheel adjustment introduced in series production in April
2001 will be retained. This means the steering wheel will be adjusted automatically in
upward direction only.
For service purposes, DIS CD V28 (or later) will enable free selection of the required
adjustment directions of the automatic steering wheel adjustment via the Car & Key
Memory (CKM). This can then be performed regardless of the production date of the
vehicle.
DIS CD V28 will be available from November 2001.
It is not possible to make a claim for reimbursement under warranty
