The blower no longer works in a certain setting in the IHKR control panel

E39, E53 with air conditioning

Complaint:

The blower of the air conditioning system (IHKR) does not operate after switching on the
ignition or starting the engine. The problem only occurs if the regulator for the air supply
(blower regulator) is slightly to the left of the centre position (approximately in "11 o'clock"
position).

If the regulator is then moved on the control panel, the blower will start up again and will
continue to run without any fault ocurring.

Vehicles with automatic air conditioning system (IHKA) (option 534) are not affected by
this fault pattern.

Cause:

Software error in the air conditioning control panel.

E39, E53 with air conditioning
Manufacturing period: from the start of series production until June 2001

Procedure:

In case of customer complaint, replace the air conditioning control panel. Please refer to
Repair Instructions "Removing and installing heater controls (air conditioning regulation)", 
RA 64 11 748.
