Faulty activation of anti-theft alarm by switch in engine compartment
E53
Complaint:
Sporadic faulty activation of anti-theft alarm (DWA) by switch in engine compartment. The
fault "engine compartment lid contact" is stored in the alarm counter.
Cause:
Height tolerances in inside panel of front lid.
Affected vehicles:
E53
Manufacturing period:
start of series production until February 2001
November 2002 until February 2003
Procedure:
In event of customer complaint, check in the diagnostic system whether "engine
compartment lid contact" is stored in the alarm counter.
If "engine compartment lid contact" is stored in the alarm counter, the switch in the engine
compartment must be replaced. Please refer to Repair Instructions "Removing and
installing / replacing bonnet contact switch", RA 61 31 241.
The switch to be ordered under the stated part number is 5 mm longer and compensates
for the height tolerances of the front lid.
If another fault is stored in the alarm counter, then continue the diagnosis with the
diagnostic system.
