Replacing CD changer
E39, E53 with BMW Business MID radio (option 661)
Situation:
The BMW Business MID (multi information display) radio from the affected manufacturing
period is not compatible with the CD changer of the latest generation (part number 65 12 6
913 390). If this CD changer is installed, unpleasant noises may occur during CD playback.
Affected vehicles:
E39, E53 with BMW Business MID radio (option 661) without Top HiFi DSP (digital sound
processor) (option 677) and with CD changer (option 672)
Manufacturing period: E39 from September 2000 until May 2001
Manufacturing period: E53 from October 2000 until May 2001
Procedure:
In case of replacement, it is important that the CD changer with the part number 65 12 6
908 950 is installed on vehicles from the said manufacturing period with the affected
equipment. Please refer to the notes in the EPC (electronic parts catalogue).
If the CD changer is no longer available, the radio must be replaced with a radio with date
of production of May 2001 or later.
Please take the correct part number from the EPC.
