Distortion from front-door loudspeakers

E53

Complaint:

When the volume is set high, there is sometimes distortion from the woofers in the front
doors.

Cause:

The bass channels in the front doors are overloaded by the equalizing function.

Affected
vehicles:

E53 with digital sound processor DSP (option 677)
Manufacturing period: start of series production until January 2002.

Procedure:

In case of customer complaint, recode the DSP amplifier. 
Proceed as follows to encode the DSP amplifier:

1.

Connect diagnosis system to vehicle

2.

Ignition ON

3.

Select "Encoding/Programming "

4.

Select "3 Encoding ZCS/FA"

5.

Select "8 E53 Series"

6.

Select "1 Recoding"

7.

Select "DSP"

8.

A status report is displayed once automatic encoding has been completed.

The necessary encoding data are contained on DIS CD 29.0 or later versions (available
from March 2002).

Reimbursement:

Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms.

Defect code

65 12 90 02 00
This defect code is not contained in the official
Defect Code Catalogue but has been included in
the system, thus enabling warranty claims to be
processed.

Within the scope of a visit to the workshop - 
recode the DSP amplifier:

recode the DSP amplifier:
