Radio reception interference in AM range
E53
Complaint:
Radio reception interference in AM range. A howling noise is heard, depending on engine
speed.
Cause:
Insufficient filtering of conducted interference in the aerial amplifier.
Affected vehicles:
E53 with radio on-board monitor with TV (option 602), BMW Business US (option 645),
Radio BMW Business CD (option 662), Radio BMW Business (option 665), Radio BMW
Professional (option 670)
Manufacturing period: from the start of series production until June 2000

Procedure:
In the event of a customer complaint, investigate the cause of the interference and check
whether external systems (e.g. workshop equipment) can be ruled out. The test should
therefore be carried out outside the workshop at sufficient distance from active electrical
systems.
If the problem is confirmed, install a new aerial amplifier. See Repair Instructions
"Removing and installing/replacing aerial amplifier".
